Eagles
These photos were taken in 2013 on the Chilkat River near Haines, Alaska. Every year in November thousands of Bald Eagles descend on a 5-mile stretch of river to feed on a late-season salmon run. The sight of eagles locking talons and tumbling through the snow, cart-wheeling together in a mid-air mating dance, or pulling salmon from the shallow water, was more than I could have hoped for. I spent a week with my camera among these incredible birds, traipsing through the snow and trees while they fought and flew and feasted all around me.
